Web ESPHome Installation Tool for Custom Firmware
Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
1. Installation via the Web ESPHome Installation Tool
- Connect the device to the PC/laptop using a USB-C cable.
- Click “Connect”.
- Select “USB JTAG/serial debug unit (COMxx)”. Is the COM port dropping or are you unable to connect? Check “3. Is the COM port dropping or do you get the message “Failed to initialize. Try resetting your device or holding the BOOT button while clicking INSTALL.”?” and follow the procedure.
- Click “Connect”.
- Now click “INSTALL”.
- Click “Choose File”.
- Select the “factory.bin” file you want to install. Then click “Open”.
- Click “INSTALL”. The firmware is now being programmed.
- Once the installation is complete, you will see the message “Configuration installed!”. Click “CLOSE”. Then close the window.
- If the green LED does not start flashing, restart the Gevako product by briefly removing and then reconnecting the USB. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi. See below under “3. Connecting to Wi-Fi via the Web ESPHome Installation Tool” for how to do this via the tool as well.
- The product is now ready for use.
2. Connecting to Wi-Fi via the Web ESPHome Installation Tool
- Connect the device to the PC/laptop using a USB-C cable.
- Click “Connect”.
- Select “USB JTAG/serial debug unit (COMxx)”. Is the COM port dropping or are you unable to connect? Check “3. Is the COM port dropping or do you get the message “Failed to initialize. Try resetting your device or holding the BOOT button while clicking INSTALL.”?” and follow the procedure.
- Click “Connect”.
- Click the three dots to the right of “LOGS”.
- Then click “Configure Wi-Fi”. If you see the message “An error occurred. Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected”, click “CLOSE” and try again by clicking the three dots.
- Click “CONNECT TO WI-FI”.
- Select your desired 2.4 GHz SSID under “Network” and enter the password under “Password”.
- Then click “CONNECT”. An attempt will now be made to connect to Wi-Fi.
- Once you see the message “Provisioned!” and the green LED stays on, the device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- The product is now ready for use.
3. Is the COM port dropping or do you get the message “Failed to initialize. Try resetting your device or holding the BOOT button while clicking INSTALL.”?
Then do the following.
- Completely power off the Gevako product using the 230 VAC power supply and remove the USB-C cable.
- Wait 5 seconds until the red LED is completely off.
- Now press and hold the Boot button (B). Now connect the USB cable to the product.
- Wait 3 seconds after the red LED is on and release the Boot button (B).
- Refresh the page and continue from step 2 of the procedures above.
